Joe Biden desires a "booming plan" to recover the US economy
President-elect
Joe Biden said, addressing the Americans that "aid is on the way".
US
President-elect Joe Biden on
Tuesday asked Congress to immediately approve a "robust plan" for the
recovery of the post-covid-19 economy, telling citizens that "aid is on
its way".
Biden,
who was speaking in Wilmington, Delaware, at the presentation of his economic
team, declared that his goal would be "to achieve an economic recovery for
everyone".
Biden
acknowledged that any financial support package approved during the Trump
administration's transition phase, until its inauguration, will be, “at best,
just a start".
His
team, led by Janet Yellen, nominated for the post of Secretary of State for the
Treasury, will play a "central role" in his mandate to relaunch the
country's economy, Biden said.
Biden News - Janet Yellen described
the situation caused by the pandemic in the United States as an "American
tragedy", recognizing that "there are many people who are unable to
put food on the table and pay their bills and household income".
"It
is urgent to act to prevent the recession from getting stronger and causing
further devastation," he warned, recalling the "lives and jobs
lost" in the country, where 268,000 people have died with covid-19 since
March.
Considered
by Biden as "one of the most important economic thinkers", Yellen has
yet to be confirmed in office by the Senate, controlled by the Republican
Party.
Biden
News - A group of Democratic and Republican representatives on Tuesday proposed
a $ 908 billion (about € 758 billion) recovery plan for the US economy.
The
proposal exceeds the 500 billion (417 billion Euros) that Republicans have been
willing to support so far, but less than the two billion (about 1.67 billion Euros)
that Democrats wanted.
