The
Government of the President of the US, Joe Biden, has tried since mid-February
contact with North Korea through various channels, including the United Nations
mission, but has received no reply, according to a senior official quoted by
the chain CNN.
"Joe
Biden stated, to reduce the risks of an escalation, we have been in contact
with the North Korean government through various channels since mid-February,
including through New York," said the official about the government's
mission in that city.
"To
date," Joe Biden added, "we
have not received any response from Pyongyang."
The
official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to CNN, explained that Biden's
attempts come after a year in which Washington has had no "active
dialogue" with Pyongyang, despite repeated US efforts.

News - In 2018, North Korea and the US began a negotiation process that led to
two summits between then-US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim
Jong-un: the first in June 2018 in Singapore and the second in February 2019 in
Hanoi, which was closed without agreement on the denuclearization process.
Later,
in December 2019, North Korea announced that it was suspending negotiations
with the US, although the Trump Administration tried to keep the dialogue open.
Joe
Biden, who took office on January 20, has not yet explained what his approach
to North Korea will be.
For
now, Biden’s government has limited itself to reviewing policy towards that
country, including possibilities to address its alleged nuclear program and the
launch of ballistic missiles.
As
part of that process, the Executive has held meetings with former officials
with experience in relations with North Korea, including those who worked under
the Trump administration.
The
North Korea policy review will end in the coming weeks, the official quoted by
CNN detailed.
