Obama veteran Tom Donilon new CIA director under Biden
Tom Donilon will become the new CIA director under Joe Biden's democracy. Tom Donilon was a previous veteran under Obama's presidency!
Tom Donilon, 65, would become the new CIA director under Democratic president-elect Joe Biden. The appointment has not yet been confirmed. American media reports that Michael Morell, 62, another Obama veteran and controversial for his views on torture techniques, would also be in the running for the post.
According
to various media outlets, Biden would consider appointing Tom Donilon, an
experienced diplomat and national security adviser to former President Barack
Obama, as director of the CIA.
Biden News
- That post may be one of the most challenging positions in the Biden
administration after Republican President Donald Trump accused the agency of
being part of the Deep State for four years, a conspiracy that would attempt to
undermine his presidency.
Second
candidate, 'justifying torture'
It
is not yet certain whether the mail will go to Donilon. American media and Biden News
also cites Michael Morell as a possible CIA director. Morell has experience in
the position: under Obama, he was already deputy and acting director of the
CIA.
However,
the fact that Morell is in the running for the position can already count on
criticism from Joe Biden's party. Democratic Senator Ron Wyden described Morell
to news network CNN as "someone who justifies torture" referring to
Morell's statement that "enhanced interrogation" or "extended
interrogation" is both effective and ethical. The term is a euphemism for
the systematic torture of inmates.
Obama
Veterans
As
vice president under Obama, Joe Biden worked closely with both Donilon and
Morell.
Biden
has already selected other Obama veterans for important national security
posts. There is Antony Blinken who will take on Foreign Affairs, and Avril
Haines who will be head of 'national intelligence DNI', the national
intelligence service that coordinates the various intelligence services.
